Life Step 3

Start hitting your prescribed calories and your prescribed macros

This step is all about dialing in your protein consumption on a daily basis. This is often the most challenging step for people. Protein is the king of the macronutrients and has the biggest impact on body composition. Without protein one simply does not build muscle. Protein not only helps you to build muscle, it also helps you recover better. Protein helps you stay fuller longer and  improve your metabolism.  


Locking in your protein will help you create success in the long run. The key to hitting your protein is to consume protein in every meal. There are many sources of protein that are available from beef, chicken and pork to yogurt, eggs and cheese. 


This step is about putting it all together. This is where the good stuff really starts to happen. Each one of the macronutrients plays an important role in the body to help you continue to operate efficiently and stay on track towards your goals. 


Carbohydrates are your main energy source and will have a major impact on working performance. They also help your brain and muscles operate efficiently and effectively. 


Fats are a secondary energy source. Fats are essential for your survival. They are essential to brain health, hormones and help protect your organs. 


This step is about maximizing your nutrition for health and performance. All 3 macros are needed for health and longevity. Although we can essentially live without carbs, it sure does help performance in workouts and give much needed energy throughout the day.


Starting to hit your macros daily will give you the tools to make smart choices anywhere, always, forever. 


This step is also about building consistency. This journey is not a sprint, it is not a marathon, but a lifelong commitment to a healthier version of your already amazing self. Results will not come overnight and we don’t want them to either. Reaching your health and fitness goals takes time. It takes incredible PATIENCE. 


Ben Bergeron has described a method to build a habit. He says to start with a calendar and a red marker. For everyday you meet your goal put a red X. In this case, everyday you hit your numbers mark a red X on the calendar. Try to see how long of a chain you can make. The longer the chain the harder the chain is to break. We encourage you to take this challenge in this step and see how long of a chain you can make. Expect adversity and overcome it. Adversity will hit at some point and the only way you lose the battle is if you quit. So if your chain is broken, just start a new one as soon as possible.
